The shrock's outward similarity to the badger is an excellent example of convergent evolution.

The shrock, Melesuncus sylvatius, is a large, nocturnal, temperate woodland-dwelling, badger-like white-toothed shrew from Eurasia, from After Man: A Zoology of the Future.

It has a size and shape comparable to that of the extinct Eurasian badger. It makes nightly forays through the undergrowth and will take any prey that it chances upon. It has a long snout and broad forepaws with which it digs after burrowing prey animals and excavates its own family nest in soft soil under tree roots.
